Eliška ESC Volunteering '24

  1. Świetlica crafts

Świetlica=children's club where children play, draw, and create various crafts.
It is one of the activities I participate in school. I usually meet Artem there, and we create crafts and other things, together with the children.
This was one of our first creations, the kids painted the base, we then added the details to ??.

    Hania poznaje świat

For a long time, alongside other volunteers and the organization ANAWOJ, we have been planning a theater play on the topic of cultural differences. We successfully created a stealth performance titled Hania poznaje świat, which follows Hane, the main character, as she travels across Europe visiting friends. This is followed by workshops with activities mainly related to our country of origin. So far, this program has been presented in four schools in Białystok, and tomorrow we have our final performance scheduled in Wasilków.

Before the performances, we met in Michałowo and prepared.

Over time, as many volunteers have already finished the program, we had to slightly change the program and shorten the play.

    Second mural

Artem and I were tasked with creating another mural. We decided to incorporate some improvisation into our design. The central concept features the "Wasilków mascot," meditating, with various objects, related with school, hobbies and the like, levitating around it.

After approx. two weeks of work, finally DONE :)

    Mural

I had the idea of creating a mural as a part of this project, even before arriving to Poland. I love painting walls, especially decorating my own room. But the big question was, what should we paint? So, with our director's approval, we decided to let the kids decide through a design competition. The winning design would be the inspiration for our mural. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=pfbid0Ur1wtdCEvjxKTXi51qQkdXwNvTY7Nd7xrhKcxQZteVzns25H5VvYcLvjiq72T5h1l&id=100063613059167

We made a few adjustments during the redrawing
and after that it was just a lot of painting, but we managed it together with Artem
    FINISHED
     hoooooray :)

    Art sessions

Even before I arrived, Artem came up with the concept of an art workshop that would take place every week on Mondays, I decided to join him - together we created art sessions. The plan is to create mainly watercolor paintings, but now we are also thinking about other techniques and collages.

    first poster we created together

    We painted

    Tuscany, Italy
    then Malibu beach, USA
    Banff, Canada
    Afterwards, we made more posters.

After that, things got a little difficult because we both fell ill, and I went to Warsaw for the ESC training.

    First week

Hi, my name is Eliška. I'm from the heart of the Czech Republic, and I'm currently doing a volunteer project in Poland, precisely at school in Wasilkow.

Soo my journey began on January 2nd. I left Prague in the afternoon in the seat of a very uncomfortable and noisy bus. The ride was difficult, the driver didn't announce the stops, the toilet was, let's just say, unclean, and the bus as a whole was chaotic. The bus was going to Riga, stopping in Bialystok along the way, so my route was at least hassle-free.

    Wednesday

The next day, around seven in the morning, I finally arrived in Bialystok; the city was covered in snow. Wonderful Joanna from ANAWOJ picked me up at the bus stop and took me to my apartment, which will serve as my home for the next six months. The rest of the day was pretty dull, and I just rested.

    Thursday

The next day, I met Joanna again. She showed me the bus route to the school, and together we went to Wasilkov. There I met the teachers and school management, and my volunteer colleague Artem toured the school and classrooms. After that, I went to observe English classes. After, I went with the assistant from ANAWOJ to arrange a bus card and look around the city.

    Friday

On Friday, I had already joined the program and slowly got to know the students.

    Weekend

On the weekend, I got to know the other volunteers in the city and visited a few places.
